A nationwide insurance-claims cohort identified 838,265 people newly diagnosed during fiscal years 2010–2019 and found rising diagnosed incidence in children and adolescents. This is incidence of new diagnoses, not population prevalence or medication use. Rising diagnosis incidence cautions against treating Japan as having a fixed, uniformly low underlying disorder rate. The measure cannot be directly compared with CDC’s current parent-reported U.S. prevalence.
